Christie’s Hong Kong art auction again proved a powerful forum to promote luxury real estate to qualified global buyers

Hong Kong (December 12, 2018)Christie’s International Real Estate, the luxury residential arm of Christie’s, the world’s leading art business, maintained its long-standing presence at Christie’s Hong Kong Auction, engaging buyers of luxury collectibles at the renowned week-long sale.

Affiliate sponsors included Strutt & Parker (U.K.) and Ken Jacobs (Sydney, Australia), while agents with Christie’s International Real Estate’s New York brokerage, which launched earlier this year, attended the auction for the first time.

Strutt & Parker co-hosted an invitation-only dinner at the Hong Kong auction house for top clients of Christie’s, and key dignitaries from Asia’s art and luxury property worlds.

Luxury properties from Christie’s International Real Estate’s global network were showcased during the auction, including 551 West 21st Street, a striking Foster + Partners-designed luxury development in Manhattan; the Boyd Residence, a four-bedroom penthouse spread across three levels with stunning views of Sydney Harbour; and Ince Castle in the U.K., recently sold by our Affiliate Strutt & Parker.

Highlights of the auction included Su Shi’s 1,000-year-old masterpiece, “Wood and Rock,” which sold for $59,505,898 (HK$463,600,000). The handscroll is one of the most expensive pieces ever sold by Christie’s in Asia. Another standout lot was “The Peacock Necklace,” a 109.08 carat Kashmir royal blue sapphire and diamond neckpiece which sold for $14,959,870 (HK$116,537,500), setting a world auction record for a Kashmir sapphire necklace.

In the culmination of Geneva Luxury Week, the Magnificent Jewels auction features a fantastic 92 carat D Flawless heart-shaped diamond pendant, named ‘La Légende’, and a pair of chandelier earrings, named ‘La Vie Bohème’,  both by Boehmer et Bassenge. With a thematic section dedicated to the Dolce Vita era along with pieces formerly owned by Doris Duke and Elizabeth Taylor, the sale embraces distinguished provenance and jewelry with a storied past. Signed pieces from Bulgari and Cartier, Kashmir sapphires, Burmese rubies Columbian emeralds round out an exceptional sale this season.
