New York, New York (May 12, 2021) — Christie’s International Real Estate proudly announces the sale of Horsethief Basin Ranch, in Lewistown, Montana. The property was represented by Caleb Campbell and Bill Boyce of Western Ranch Brokers, a team at PureWest Real Estate, the network’s exclusive Affiliate in Montana. Christie’s International Real Estate provided global marketing support.

The 7,000-acre property was one of two ranches owned by rancher-financier Mort Fleischer, co-founder of the real estate investment trust Store Capital Corp., and his wife, Donna. The second ranch, MorDo, is a 100-acre spread outside of Scottsdale, Arizona and still available for US$19,500,000. Horsethief Basin Ranch is grounded by a majestic 8,000-square-foot log home as homage to the American West. There are also two guest houses on the property, a six-stall barn and numerous corrals.  

The Horsethief Basin Ranch sale comes as Montana posts its best year in sales of properties over 200 acres since 2006, with 2021 poised to set another record. According to the Montana Land Source:

  • First quarter sales in 2020 were 27; 60 were posted in the first quarter of 2021
  • In 2005, 248 ranches sold compared to 255 in 2020
  • In 2020, inventory was down 16 percent, due in part to owners opting not to sell
  • Days on market was up 10 percent ironically enough; ranches that have been listed for years were being snatched up
  • The agency reports that in years past, land was the main feature when purchasing a ranch while current buyers are looking for move-in ready homes and outbuildings
