Peter Moore, CEO of Premier League’s champion Liverpool Football Club with his wife, Debbie, transformed the estate into a perfect medley of historic graciousness and contemporary luxury

London (September 17, 2020) — Axholme, dating back to 1928, seems unchanged when driving through the regal wooden electric gates leading to a circular drive with a stunning water feature. The façade of the property appears as it did almost a century ago. Many of the interiors, however, have been reinvigorated for modern living.

The 10,000-square-foot residence, sited on one-and-one-half acres, is ideal for extended family, including an elevator serving the three levels of the six-bedroom main residence, a separate two-bedroom annex and recreational facilities for all ages, such as an indoor pool, sauna, gym, tree house, zip line and tennis court.

Global marketing services for Axholme are provided by Christie’s International Real Estate. Furnishings are not included in the price of the home but may be negotiated separately.

Peter Moore, a native son of Liverpool, moved to the United States and held executive positions at Sega, Microsoft, Reebok and EA or Electronic Arts. In 2017, Mr. Moore signed a three-year contract to help bring the Liverpool football team back to its former brilliance.

The team had won England's top football league championship 18 times, the last in 1990 until the team’s triumphant return in the 2019–2020 season. Mr. Moore was instrumental in ending Liverpool’s 30-year league title drought. When his contract expired in August, he announced that he would not re-sign so he could return to the United States to be near his family.

In an open letter to the Liverpool community last month, Mr. Moore wrote: “I leave with our beloved football club in fantastic shape, both on and off the pitch. I’ll return to being just a supporter, one who can jump up, scream and punch the sky again when we score.” The Moores also funded Liverpool charities, such as foodbanks and hospitals, through their foundation.

Said Georgina James of Christie’s International Real Estate: “Just as Peter Moore reinvigorated the Liverpool Football Club, he and his wife did the same with the Axholme estate. They honored tradition while injecting new life into a historic landmark.”

Axholme is introduced by massive double wooden doors opening to a bright entry hall featuring a staircase to the second level and flowing into a drawing room with enormous bay windows overlooking the gardens and a fireplace. The formal dining room, which can comfortably seat 12, also has bay windows, is warmed by a hearth and is served by a butler’s pantry.

The kitchen area is a contemporary family retreat with a large television room and informal breakfast alcove. Natural light pours through multiple skylights and walls of glass doors leading to the gardens. Off the kitchen is a walk-in cooler, utility room and small office.

There is an additional family dining area of contemporary design with a pitched roof accented with skylights and multiple glass doors leading to a stunning terrace, with heating, for alfresco entertaining and relaxing. Completing this first level is the conservatory, an oasis of calm with yet another wall of glass doors opening to a loggia and a second study with a more traditional design.

The second level contains the principal bedroom suite with modern shower, double vanities and substantial dressing room. There are three additional bedrooms, one en-suite shower, plus a family bathroom. On the third level are two more bedrooms, one with sitting room and en suite shower, a large cinema room and a full gym.

The self-contained annex of 1,353 square feet on two levels consists of a large open-plan living and dining room, kitchen and utility room on the first floor and two bedrooms, a bath and dressing room above. The annex can be entered through the main house but for privacy, also has a separate garden access.

Recreational amenities include an indoor pool complex, accessible from the home’s first level, with a steam room, sauna, plant room, hot tub and changing area. There is also a floodlit all-weather tennis court, a pond and a quiet gazebo not to mention lovely landscaped gardens throughout the 1.5-acre grounds. For the younger set, in addition to the zip line and treehouse, there is an in-ground trampoline. State-of-the-art ADT home alarm and video surveillance systems protect the property.

The estate is located in Merseyside, the town where the Liverpool team’s top players reside. Notable schools, such as Upton Hall and Birkenhead School, are nearby. Golfers will enjoy the Wirral Ladies Golf Club and The Royal Liverpool Golf Club, which has hosted Open Championships and Ryder Cup competitions. Five nature reserves, mostly found along the lovely coastline, are all within a short drive of Axholme. Liverpool John Lennon Airport is 13 miles away.
